History and mission
The Montreal Recorder Society (MRS) is a non-profit organization managed by a Board composed of volunteer members.
The mission of the MRS is to offer quality activities for adult amateur recorder players of all levels. The musical activities are directed by professional musicians.
The first meetings which lead to the formation of the MRS took place in 1963. Ten or so people attended these meetings, hosted in the participants’ homes, for the fun of playing together. The official formation of the organization dates back to 1964 under the name ARS Musica Montreal.
MRS was registered as a chapter of the American Recorder Society from its beginning.
In June 2014, the MRS celebrated its 50th anniversary and refreshed its logo for the occasion. The blue treble clef and recorder replaced the white recorders on a black background.
