Strategic Planning Presentation
The MRS has undertaken in early 2016 a strategic planning exercise. A strategic plan helps to define who we are, what we want to become, and how to get there in the short and long term (5 years). For example, do we want to increase the number of member? If yes, by how many per year? How will we do it? Do we want to spend money to invite renowned international musicians to give workshops, or to give concerts in nursing homes? Are we a school or social group?
The strategic plan that we will produce at the end of the current process will be used as guide and decision support. It will also help us evaluate our progress against the goals we have set. This plan will be reviewed regularly to assess its relevance and applicability. A strategic plan is not a static tool, but a dynamic one.
I hear you ask: But what’s in it for me, as a member?
- Better visibility on the management of the MRS
- Understanding the Board’s decisions
- Identify where you can contribute to achieving the objectives of the MRS
Ultimately, the strategic plan is a tool that will enable the MRS to continue to grow and remain a healthy organization. The number of members has continued to increase over the years, and so has the variety of activities. It is therefore important to find ways to continue to evolve and adapt to change.
As you can imagine, strategic planning is not an easy task. A sub- group of Diane Koch, André De Léan, Chantal Perreault, Denise Langlois and myself, Gabrielle Soucy, is working on this plan. We will present the progress of our work at the Welcome Cocktail on August 31, 2016. Our goal is to complete the process by the end of the 2016-2017 season.
